Project Overview

The Asia Low-Carbon Building Transition (ALCBT) project is a five-year (2023-2028) multi-country initiative funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German government, aimed at accelerating the adoption of low-carbon building practices in Asia.

It operates in countries like India, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam, focusing on integrating sustainable, energy-efficient, and low-emission technologies into the construction of new buildings as well as retrofits of existing ones.

In India, the ALCBT project is implemented by Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in collaboration with partners such as Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and FICCI. The program recognizes that over 70% of the buildings that will exist in 2030-2040 are yet to be built, presenting a huge opportunity to adopt low-carbon approaches in the upcoming construction boom.

Key Outcomes

  • Training program targeting 2,100+ professionals in India by 2025
  • Dozens of workshops conducted across multiple states
  • Growing community of certified professionals in low-carbon buildings
  • Training modules being adopted by universities and professional bodies
  • Insights shared with BEE and Ministry of Housing for policy refinement
  • Material manufacturers committing to innovative low-carbon product lines
